Shravana Nakshatra

Nakshatra Details
There is a constellation Aquila to the north of Capricorn. The three stars of this constellation named Alpha, Beta and Gamma Garuda are known as Shravan Nakshatra. The three stages of the Vamana form of Vishnu are imagined in these stars situated in a straight line. Its central big star Alpha Garuda is known as Altair, which means bird. The Arab people thought it was a bird-like star. It is a super-hot, highly luminous, blue star, which is 16 light years away from us and is twice as big as the Sun in diameter.

Ark means Sun. Being the favourite tree of the Sun and being imbued with the qualities of the Sun, it was called Ark, which got distorted to become Aak or Akouta. In scientific language it is called Calotropis Procera. Its flowers are red in colour. It is a perennial shrub-like plant of 1 to 3 metres height. Usually in barren and dry land, where other plants cannot flourish, its plant appears green.

Mythological Significance
Its wood is used to pacify the Sun. This tree is worshipped and consumed as a symbol of Lord Sun. The old root of the white madaar is worshipped as Ganesha and is called Vasuka because it is believed to give immense wealth.
