Nakshatra Details
Ardra means wetting. A big red star situated in the north-west corner of the Orion constellation is called Ardra constellation. The scientific name of this star is Alpha Mrig and the western name is Betulguz. This red star is about 240 light years away from us, the diameter of this giant star is about a hundred times more than the diameter of the Sun. If Ardra takes the place of the Sun, then all the planets up to Mars will fit into its belly. When the Sun enters this constellation (22 June to 4 July), rain starts. Therefore, the meaning of this constellation 'Ardra' is associated with the arrival of rain. According to the Puranas, Ardra is the wife of Rudra Shankar, the deity of this constellation.
