Nakshatra Details
Pushya means the one who strengthens. When the Sun comes in the Ardra constellation, the vegetation of the earth gets strengthened, probably that is why this constellation was named Pushya. Another name of this constellation is Tishya, which means auspicious or one who gives satisfaction. The month of Paush (Push) was named after this constellation. People imagine the shape of an arrow in this constellation of three faint stars situated in the center of Cancer zodiac. The main star of this constellation is Delta Cancer, which is located exactly on the path of the Sun. This constellation is said to provide success, hence one of its names is Siddhya.

Ficus religiosa
Peepal is called Pippal (meaning it has water), Bodhidrum (tree that gives enlightenment), Chaldal (tree with leaves that keep moving continuously), Kunjarashan (elephant's food), Achyutavas (Lord Vishnu's abode), Pavitrak (purifier), Ashwattha (not stable) in Sanskrit and in scientific language it is called Ficus religiosa. It is found in the whole of India except the desert region. Birds eat its fruits and defecate wherever they find it.

Mythological Significance
This tree is believed to be the abode of Lord Vishnu. Lord Krishna has said in the Gita that among all trees I am Peepal (Ashwattha: Sarva Vrikshanaam). The importance of planting, watering and worshipping it has been described in all religious texts. Watering, circumambulating, bowing and respecting this tree brings all auspicious results and destroys all kinds of misfortunes. Planting this tree on the banks of water bodies is said to be especially virtuous.
